What Strategies can we use to Evaluate our Intentions and Goals?
Every teacher values different goals when planning a unit. Different achievements will be made in every classroom depending on the level of your students and what you value most within your content. Having autonomy in your assessment is a perk for a teacher, as long as you are still meeting outcomes and preparing students for their future.
If you are feeling completely lost when it comes to assessment, a good place to start is the Alberta Assessment Consortium. This website is available to educators to help them plan methods for summative as well as formative assessment. It not only offers advice and tools, but it even has sample performance tasks and rubrics available so that you can use them in your own classroom.
I am currently adapting one from the AAC's website called Character Scrapbook, and am using as my summative assessment tool in my Hamlet unit. I have altered it to fit a 30-1 class of 37 students, and a 30 AP class of 19 students. The general outline of the assignment is linked below.
